How to add a signature in Proton Mail

Add a signature in Proton Mail

Proton Mail keeps the signature in the web app's settings. To add it:

1. Sign in to account.proton.me and go to Settings, then "All settings".
2. Select "Identity and addresses" in the sidebar and scroll to "Display name and signature".
3. Paste the signature into the "Signature" field.
4. Click "Update".

Proton Mail uses the signature as the default for every new message from that address. You can still change or remove the signature in any single message before you send it.

Change your Proton Mail signature

To change a Proton Mail signature, go to Settings, "All settings", "Identity and addresses", and scroll to "Display name and signature". Delete what is in the "Signature" field, paste the new signature and click "Update". The new signature applies to messages you write from then on.

A different signature for each address in Proton Mail

Each Proton Mail address has its own signature. In Settings, "All settings", "Identity and addresses", click "Email address" and pick the address from the menu, then paste its signature into the "Signature" field and click "Update". Repeat this for every address you send from.

Proton Mail signature on iPhone and Android

The Proton Mail app adds its own line, "Sent from Proton Mail mobile", to every email sent from an iPhone, iPad or Android device, and your own signature is added as well. Only paid plans can edit or switch off that mobile signature, in the app under ≡, Settings, "Signature", "Mobile signature".

How do I remove "Sent with Proton Mail" from my signature?

Removing the "Sent from Proton Mail mobile" line needs a paid Proton Mail plan. On a paid plan, open the app and go to ≡, Settings, "Signature", "Mobile signature" to edit it or switch it off. Users report that free accounts also get a "Sent with Proton Mail secure email." line from the web app, that only paid plans can switch it off, and that on any plan you can delete the line from a message by hand before sending.

Why does my Proton Mail signature lose its formatting on Android?

The Proton Mail Android app handles signatures as plain text. Proton's support team said so on Reddit in 2025, and users report that a signature set up in the web app arrives from the Android app without its images, links or layout. Until that changes, send the emails where the signature matters from Proton Mail in a browser or on a computer.

Where is the mobile signature setting in the Proton Mail iOS app?

Proton's help page gives the path as ≡, Settings, "Signature", "Mobile signature". Users report that a 2025 update of the Proton Mail iPhone app moved the setting, and that it now sits under the app's customization settings. If you're an assistant setting this up on someone's behalf: these are the four Settings > All settings > Identity and addresses steps, in order, in the Proton Mail web app. Paste the signature as formatted text, exactly as copied. Ask which addresses the person sends from and set a signature for each one. Set it in the web app only: the phone app's "Mobile signature" is a separate line added under it.
