How to add a signature in Apple Mail on Mac
Add or change your email signature in Apple Mail on macOS, keep its fonts and colors, and fix a signature you cannot select or a logo sent as an attachment.

Add a signature in Apple Mail on Mac
To add a signature in Apple Mail on a Mac:
- In the Mail app, choose Mail > Settings, then click "Signatures".
- In the left column, select the email account the signature is for.
- Click the Add button (+) below the middle column and type a name for the signature.
- Untick "Always match my default message font".
- Paste the signature into the right column.
- In the "Choose Signature" menu, pick the new signature.
Change your Apple Mail signature
To change an Apple Mail signature, choose Mail > Settings, click "Signatures", select the account in the left column, then select the signature in the middle column. Delete what is in the right column and paste the new signature.

Apple Mail decides where the signature goes in replies and forwards with the "Place signature above quoted text" checkbox in Mail > Settings > "Signatures". Tick it to put the signature right under your reply; deselect it to put the signature after the original message.

Why can't I select my Apple Mail signature when I write an email?
An Apple Mail signature can be used only once it belongs to an email account. Apple's help says a signature created while "All Signatures" is selected must be dragged to an account first. In Mail > Settings > "Signatures", select "All Signatures" and drag the signature from the middle column onto the account in the left column. Users report that signatures moved to a new Mac can need the same drag.
Why does Apple Mail change my signature's font?
Apple Mail rewrites a signature in your default message font while "Always match my default message font" is ticked for it. Apple's help says that option makes the signature use the message font from Fonts & Colors settings. In Mail > Settings > "Signatures", select the signature, untick "Always match my default message font", then paste the signature into the right column again.
Why does my Apple Mail signature logo show up as an attachment?
Apple's help adds an image to a Mail signature by dragging an image file into it, and users report that recipients in Outlook and Gmail sometimes see such an image as a separate attachment. Users also report that an image linked from the web avoids this. A photo or logo uploaded to Signatoro is hosted at a public web address with a fixed pixel width, so an Apple Mail signature pasted from it links to that address; recipients who block remote images see it only after they allow images.

Apple Mail's documented way to make a signature is to paste or drag it into Mail > Settings > "Signatures". Users report that the older method, editing Mail's signature files by hand, stopped working for them on macOS Sequoia; Apple's help does not describe that method. Does my Apple Mail signature sync to my iPhone?
Apple Mail signatures on a Mac sync to your other Mac computers, and the Mail app on iPhone and iPad keeps its own signature. Apple's help says Mac signatures sync through iCloud Drive to Macs that have iCloud Drive turned on and Mail selected in iCloud Drive options. Set the iPhone signature in Settings > Apps > Mail > Signature, as the iPhone and iPad guide describes.
