  • Gmail MCP and Outlook MCP: getting your signature on emails your AI sends

What a Gmail or Outlook MCP server is, the official ones from Google and Microsoft, why email sent through them has no signature, and how to add yours with Signatoro's MCP.

    Published October 7, 2026

A Gmail or Outlook MCP server gives an AI assistant tools to search, draft and send your email. Those tools send the body the assistant writes, and the signature saved in Gmail or Outlook is not added. Connect Signatoro's MCP server next to your mail server, and the assistant calls get_signature before each email and appends your real signature, the same one you use when you write by hand.

What is a Gmail MCP or Outlook MCP server?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is, in its maintainers' words, "an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems." An MCP server exposes tools, which the specification describes as letting models "interact with external systems, such as querying databases, calling APIs, or performing computations." A mail MCP server is one whose tools read, draft or send email. Under the hood, a Gmail server calls the Gmail API and an Outlook server calls Microsoft Graph.

Is there an official MCP for Gmail?

Yes. Google runs a remote Gmail MCP server at https://gmailmcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1, offered "as part of the Google Workspace Developer Preview Program" as of 2026-10-07. Its tools search threads, read messages and threads, manage labels and create drafts. Sending stays with a person: the assistant writes a draft and the person sends it from Gmail. create_draft takes a plain-text body and an htmlBody, and has no signature field.

To install it, Google's guide lists four steps: enable the Gmail API in a Google Cloud project, enable the Gmail MCP API, set up the OAuth consent screen with the Gmail scopes, and add the server to your MCP client. The guide has instructions for Antigravity and for Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop), plus generic steps for other clients that support remote MCP servers. You need to be a member of the Developer Preview Program.

Claude and ChatGPT also have their own Gmail connectors, set up in the assistant's settings. The Claude guide and ChatGPT guide cover how each one sends and how to add your signature. Open-source Gmail MCP servers exist too; read their code and the scopes they request before giving one access to your mailbox.

Is there an official Outlook MCP?

Microsoft's Outlook mail server is Work IQ Mail (mcp_MailTools), in preview as of 2026-10-07. Its tools create, update, send and delete messages, reply and reply all, and search mail, all through Microsoft Graph. sendMail takes a body with a contentType of Text or HTML, and no signature field. Microsoft says "You must have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to use Work IQ MCP servers." You can connect it from Copilot Studio or Microsoft Foundry, and from Claude Code, GitHub Copilot CLI or VS Code after registering an app in Microsoft Entra.

Why email sent through a mail MCP has no signature

The tools hand the body to the Gmail API or Graph, and both send what they are given. Google's Gmail API reference says the Gmail signature is "included in messages composed with this alias in the Gmail web UI", and Graph has no API that returns an Outlook signature at all.

    People notice:

    • On Claude's Gmail connector: "an email sent through this connector arrives unsigned and looks like it came from nobody. That is not a cosmetic difference; it changes whether the recipient acts on the message."
    • On the open-source Google Workspace MCP server, one user reported that "Sender silently goes out without their configured signature, no error raised." That server added an include_signature option for drafts in March 2026, which reads the signature through sendAs.list. The report describes the send tool running with only the gmail.send scope, which cannot read settings, so the signature came back empty.

An assistant left to fill the gap writes a signature from memory, and it can drop the logo or invent a phone number.

Keep a person in the loop

The MCP specification says: "For trust & safety and security, there SHOULD always be a human in the loop with the ability to deny tool invocations." Applications SHOULD "Present confirmation prompts to the user for operations, to ensure a human is in the loop." Claude's Gmail connector asks for approval before each send, reply or forward by default, and Google's Gmail MCP stops at a draft.

That review step is the moment to check the signature is there, once. When an agent writes as itself or as a team, a company can carry an AI disclosure line in the footnote every signature includes.

Add your signature with Signatoro's MCP server

    1. Add Signatoro to your assistant as an MCP server at https://signatoro.com/mcp. The MCP guide has the steps for Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT.
    2. Sign in to Signatoro the first time a tool asks.
    3. Tell the assistant, in its instructions or project instructions, to call get_signature before drafting or sending any email, and to put html after an HTML body and text after a plain-text body, unchanged.
    4. Draft one email through your Gmail or Outlook MCP and check it ends with your signature, once.
Before you draft or send any email, call Signatoro get_signature. Put its
html after the email body, or its text if the body is plain text. Copy it
exactly. Never write a signature yourself.

get_signature returns the signature you saved on Signatoro, in full or, with mode set to short, as name, role line and one link. In a company, the logo, colors and footnote come from the company. The tool reads your signature and changes nothing in your mailbox.

Signatoro has found that the Gmail tool built into chat assistants drops every image from the HTML it is given, so through those tools the text signature arrives intact and html arrives without its picture. Your own code sending raw MIME keeps the picture; the agent API guide has the details.

Gmail MCP and Outlook MCP questions

Is there any MCP for Gmail?

Yes. As of October 2026, Google offers a remote Gmail MCP server at https://gmailmcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1 through its Google Workspace Developer Preview Program. It searches and reads mail, manages labels and creates drafts, but has no send tool. Claude and ChatGPT also ship their own Gmail connectors, and open-source Gmail MCP servers exist.

How do I install the Gmail MCP server?

Google's "Configure the Gmail MCP server" guide has four steps: enable the Gmail API and the Gmail MCP API in a Google Cloud project, set up the OAuth consent screen with the Gmail scopes, and add the server URL to your MCP client, such as Antigravity or Claude. Access requires membership in the Google Workspace Developer Preview Program.

Is there an MCP server for Outlook?

Yes. Microsoft's Work IQ Mail MCP server (mcp_MailTools) reads, drafts, sends and replies to Outlook mail through Microsoft Graph. It is in preview, needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and connects from Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, or clients such as Claude Code and VS Code after an app is registered in Microsoft Entra.

Why doesn't my Gmail MCP add my signature?

Mail MCP tools pass the body to the Gmail API, which sends exactly what it receives; Google says the Gmail signature is added in the Gmail web UI. Some servers read the signature from Gmail settings, which needs a settings scope such as gmail.settings.basic. Otherwise, connect Signatoro's MCP server and have the assistant append get_signature to each email.

Can Claude use my Gmail signature?

Claude's Gmail connector has no tool that reads the signature saved in Gmail settings, so email it sends carries none unless Claude writes one in. Paste your signature as text into Claude's instructions, or connect Signatoro's MCP server so Claude fetches your saved signature with get_signature. The Claude guide has both.

    For agents

    • A mail MCP tool sends or drafts exactly the body you pass. No signature is added.
    • Before each draft or send, call Signatoro get_signature and append html or text unchanged. If the call fails, send without a signature and tell the person.
    • Never write a signature from memory or from the person's name and title.
    • If the mail tool already appends a signature, do not add a second one.
    • Ask for confirmation before sending when the client does not.
