Hermes Agent is an open-source agent from Nous Research, under the MIT license. It runs on your computer or a server, on Linux, macOS, Windows or Android, and you talk to it from a terminal, its desktop app or messaging apps such as Telegram, Slack and WhatsApp.
Hermes sends email three ways:
Hermes connects to MCP servers, and Signatoro runs one. Hermes fetches your current signature from it before each email.
Email Hermes sends from your Gmail, through the Google Workspace skill, goes out under your name, so it carries your signature. Email from the agent's own address, through the email gateway or the Himalaya skill, carries an AI assistant signature that says an AI sent it.
Each AI assistant or agent gets its own key or MCP connection and signs as the person it works for or as itself, by default with a line saying it is an AI and whom it acts for. Free includes 1 AI assistant; each person on a Company plan gets 3 AI assistants, and the company gets 3, 10 or 25 agents by size, on top of the people the plan covers.
Add an AI assistant on Signatoro and choose whether it signs as you or as the agent. If Hermes sends only from its own address, set "Signs as" to the assistant for the Hermes connection, under "Connected assistants" on your signature page. If it sends from both, leave "Signs as" on "Me": the rule tells Hermes to pick the signature each email needs and to ask you when it is unclear.
The email gateway sends every reply as plain text. Signatoro returns your signature as text as well as HTML, and the email signature rule tells Hermes to append the text version to a plain-text email.
The Google Workspace skill can send HTML email, which carries the HTML signature with its links and images.
Connect Signatoro's MCP server in ~/.hermes/config.yaml, sign in with hermes mcp login signatoro, and add the email signature rule to SOUL.md. Hermes then fetches your signature before each email. Send one test email and check its end in the receiving inbox.
Yes, with the Google Workspace skill that comes with Hermes. It signs in to your Google account, and it asks you before each email it sends. For the email gateway and the Himalaya skill, Nous recommends a dedicated account for the agent.
Add it under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml. A hosted server takes a url; one that signs you in with OAuth also takes auth: oauth, and you run hermes mcp login with its name from a new terminal.
Yes. The email gateway replies from the agent's address in the same thread, keeps the subject with a Re: prefix, and sends the reply as plain text.
