ChatGPT now connects to iCloud Mail: what it means for your signature

Since October 27, 2026, ChatGPT can connect to iCloud Mail on every plan. What OpenAI shipped, how the app-specific password works, where your iCloud signature lives, and how to make sure email ChatGPT writes from your iCloud address ends with your signature.

On October 27, 2026, OpenAI added iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins to ChatGPT, on every plan, on the web, the desktop app and iOS. An @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address can now be connected to ChatGPT the way Gmail and Outlook already could. Your iCloud signature stays where Apple keeps it: in Mail on iCloud.com and in the Mail app on each device. ChatGPT connects as an outside app, and neither OpenAI nor Apple says that an email written through the plugin carries either signature. Tell ChatGPT which signature to use, and check one sent email before you rely on it.

OpenAI added two iCloud plugins on October 27

OpenAI's release notes for October 27, 2026 say: "iCloud users can now connect Mail and Calendar to ChatGPT to find emails, catch up on your inbox, check your schedule, and update calendar events." They list it as "Available to all ChatGPT plans on the web, desktop app, and iOS."

OpenAI's help center adds the details:

    • Two plugins, connected one at a time. iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar are separate plugins, and "A plugin installation does not authorize the other service." Both include read-only contact lookup. Standalone Contacts and Reminders plugins are "outside this launch".
    • An app-specific password. The connection form takes an Apple app-specific password, never your regular Apple password. For Mail, you enter your iCloud Mail address, the one ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com. For Calendar, you enter your primary Apple Account email, which can be a different address.
    • Only that iCloud mailbox. The plugin connects the iCloud Mail address you enter. MacRumors reports that ChatGPT sees only your iCloud Mail this way, not the Gmail or Outlook accounts in your iPhone's Mail app; those connect through ChatGPT's own Gmail and Outlook plugins.

OpenAI's release note speaks of finding and reading. Launch coverage, such as MacRumors on October 27, reports that the Mail plugin can also manage drafts and send email. We could not open the plugin's listing in ChatGPT's directory without signing in, so we cannot quote OpenAI on the send. OpenAI's page on app permissions lists "Sending an email" among the actions that may need additional review.

Your iCloud signature lives in three places, and ChatGPT is a fourth

An iCloud address can have three signatures, each in its own place:

    • Mail on iCloud.com. Apple's help says: "You can create a plain text signature that appears automatically on every email you send from Mail on iCloud.com." It is plain text only, with no logo or layout. The iCloud Mail guide has the steps.
    • The Mail app on a Mac. Set in Mail's settings, with your logo if you paste a formatted one. The Apple Mail guide covers it.
    • The Mail app on an iPhone or iPad. Set on each device. The iPhone and iPad guide covers it.

Each of those is added by its own compose window. ChatGPT signs in the way any outside app does. Apple puts it this way: "App-specific passwords allow you to sign in to your Apple Account in apps made by developers other than Apple." Neither OpenAI's pages nor Apple's say that the plugin uses the signature from Mail on iCloud.com or from the Mail app. We have not tested what an email sent through the plugin ends with, so treat the signature as missing until a sent email shows otherwise.

How to connect iCloud Mail to ChatGPT, and keep your signature

    1. Make an app-specific password. Sign in at account.apple.com, open "Sign-In and Security", choose "App-Specific Passwords" and select "Generate an app-specific password". Apple requires two-factor authentication for this. Name it "ChatGPT" so you can find it later.
    2. Install the plugin. In ChatGPT, open Settings > Plugins, select iCloud Mail and select "Install plugin". Enter your iCloud Mail address and the app-specific password. Do the same for iCloud Calendar if you want it.
    3. Choose when ChatGPT asks first. Open Settings > Plugins > Permissions. With "Always ask", ChatGPT asks before it reads or changes anything. With "Allow read actions", it reads without asking and asks before it makes changes. Start with one of these two.
    4. Give ChatGPT your signature. Install the Signatoro plugin from the same Plugins page and add the email signature rule from the ChatGPT guide to your custom instructions. Before each email, ChatGPT then fetches the signature you saved on Signatoro, as HTML and as plain text. Or, without an account, make the signature on Signatoro, click "HTML" > "Copy as text", and paste it into your custom instructions with "End every email you write with this signature, exactly as written."
    5. Send yourself a test. Ask ChatGPT to write a short email from your iCloud address to another address of yours, approve it, and open it in the Sent folder on iCloud.com. Check that the signature appears once, at the end, with your real phone number and email address.
    6. Know how to disconnect. OpenAI's help says that disconnecting iCloud in ChatGPT "does not revoke its password at Apple". Remove the password at account.apple.com as well.

    Where Signatoro fits

Signatoro is the agentic email signature platform: save your signature once, and your people and every AI agent you connect use the same one. For an iCloud address, that means one signature that Mail on your Mac, your iPhone and ChatGPT all start from, kept up to date in one place. A signature pasted into custom instructions stays as it was until you paste it again; a connected one is fetched before each email, so a new phone number reaches the next email ChatGPT writes.

For Mail on iCloud.com, paste Signatoro's "Copy as text" version; in the Mail app on your Mac, paste the formatted one.

    Questions people ask

Can ChatGPT send email from my iCloud address?

OpenAI's release notes describe finding emails and catching up on your inbox, and launch coverage reports that the Mail plugin can send and manage drafts. With "Always ask" or "Allow read actions" set, ChatGPT asks before it makes changes, a send included.

Does ChatGPT add my iCloud Mail signature?

Neither OpenAI nor Apple says so. Apple describes the iCloud.com signature as added to email "you send from Mail on iCloud.com", and the Mail app on each device adds its own. Give ChatGPT your signature, then check one sent email.

Which ChatGPT plans include the iCloud Mail plugin?

All of them, according to OpenAI's release notes of October 27, 2026, on the web, the desktop app and iOS. In a managed workspace, an administrator may need to enable the app first.

Will ChatGPT see the Gmail account in my iPhone's Mail app?

No. The iCloud Mail plugin connects the iCloud address you enter. Connect Gmail or Outlook through their own plugins in ChatGPT.

Why did ChatGPT lose my iCloud connection?

Apple says that changing or resetting your main Apple Account password revokes every app-specific password at once, and a password you revoke yourself stops working too. Make a new one and reconnect iCloud Mail in Settings > Plugins.
